Getting into the Spirit of Christmas

Before....

A bit of yarn bombing to get into the festive mood....

All for a good cause....

And aren't these just so cute....

Patterns available over here at mochimochiland, very quick and easy....

And what do you do on a rainy hot day in the tropics in the summer holidays???   Play in the cattle trough of course!   'Gelli Baff' added to water for some super duper non toxic water crystal goo fun!

I hope you all have a lovely Christmas and enjoy the festive season with family and friends.  Thank you so much for your support over the last year, blogging has been a blast.  I have met so many lovely new friends who have enriched my life and shared themselves and their creating spirit and proved to me that this really in a wonderful world!

Peace on Earth and Goodwill to all mankind.

Thank you for sharing,

This is adorable....

Happy Holidays....

We've Been, We've Seen and We have caught up with family. It was fun but very rushed and we are now back and going thru the list in the countdown to Christmas.....

Only 2 more sleeps!!! Huge excitement in this house :-)

Here are some of the highlights of the holiday....

The Oprah House????

Rock pools are the best, we don't get those in Cairns....

Cullen letting me know he is being good or as he puts it God , reading and writing big time now. He wrote 'I am god today' :-)

Can you see Ethan in his camouflage gear?? Look at the huge King Parrot in the tree above him!

What a fantastic view! The Three Sisters, Katoomba, Blue Mountains NSW. It is amazing every time I see it!

Christmas shopping at Bondi Junction.....was I insane???

Mums old rollerblades, and yes I had a go! My balance has gone a bit in the last 13 years, goodness I used to ride these to work and back when I lived in Canberra. (13kms each way) I was lucky to make it along the esplanade without a mishap this time! Impressed the boys though, they thought I was too old for that stuff :-)

Cullen bought himself a rip-stick for Christmas and got lots of practice in on the Sydney streets. I have to take him to town for a go up here as we live on a dirt road....

Worn out from the sun and surf, nothing an icecream didn't fix on the way back to Grandma's....

We were big enough to swim in the surf this year and ride the boogie board, huge excitement!!

I was there but I only swam once, It was FREEZING for us North Queenslanders!

How are your xmas plans going? We had 3 inches of rain last night and the creek almost went over the bridge which is the only access in for us so I did my shopping today and we are hoping it doesn't keep raining or the family will be unable to get to our house for lunch! Hope Billy is hungry!

I snuck in a little yarn bombing yesterday as well, will post photos tomorrow :-)

It's good to be back!

Seeing Stars and A Confession

I'm seeing STARS!!! Lots of them as well as they are my school teachers presents, note the school colours and also my Christmas card this year....saving trees, just means that I have been making a lot of them. Good job they are quick and easy! Want the pattern? Then Pop over to Jellywares for this brilliant tutorial....

Look at these amazing things we have been spotting around our place....

This mushroom is as big as my outstretched hand!

A Green Cicada....they are mostly black up around our house so this was a rare find....

A bit of a blurry photo but you can see how big he is....

A Rhinoceros beetle....

And now for the confession!

I have succumbed to the commercial push of Christmas! I feel really guilty about this as I really try to avoid it. The boys had seen these reindeer antlers and nose for the car and REALLY, REALLY wanted it....how could I say NO???? Just this once....

'The Rudolf Car'

We are off to Sydney now for a family reunion, I have been going like a mad thing to get everything ship shape before I leave as Billy is staying home to mind the animals and this is his busy season so the less he has to do the better. So I am SEEING STARS!!!!

I will be reading your posts and comments but will be unable to leave comments myself as I am not taking my laptop....I am having a well earned break!

See you in a few weeks :-)

Handmade Christmas Challenge

I have been meaning to redo our Advent Calendar for a number of years. We have a card which was sent one year by a friend which has little windows that you open and there is a Christmas picture behind the flap. Its nice and the kids like it but I have been trying to teach them more about what the message of Christmas really is.

Claire over at Craft Schmaft has a lovely idea for an advent calendar, I really liked the simplicity of it and the way it shared the 'spirit' of Christmas and got the children involved in the sharing. This is my variation on her Calendar....

I have been fighting the commercialism of Christmas for a number of years, I get very disheartened by the mad frenzy that I see at the shops and in the community and amongst our children. Its all about Me, Me, Me and 'The I Wants'......not a pretty picture!

So in an effort to get back to the Real Christmas this year we have downsized and I am doing a Handmade Christmas. I can proudly say that I have made all my presents except for my husbands ( I can't make work overalls! ) and some of the boys presents. Sorry I love the learning experience the boys get from Lego and through books and I just can't make them.... Plus my eldest wanted a Lab Coat and safety glasses for doing Science experiments and research, I can sew but not that well :-)

Here is our little tree, grown locally by a neighbour and recyclable for years to come. One of the messages on the tree is to donate our old tree to charity along with all the bought decorations that have been cluttering up my cupboard for too many years. This year we are going to keep it simple and the boys are going to put a nature decoration on the tree everyday.....

Cute isn't it.... Each tag has a December date on it leading up to Christmas Day and there is a simple message of something fun to do or something sharing to do....

Remember that red Ric-Rac that I made a while ago?? I have used it to brighten up this dress which I really liked but felt that it just needed a bit of colour. This is a photo of Cullen and I at the Botanical Gardens in Cairns, a tropical paradise which we visited recently while we were waiting for 'Tulah' to arrive at the airport.

Hope you are having a great weekend,

Handmade Christmas Challenge

My fingers have been busy, busy, busy! I have been making all my Christmas presents and ticking off my list.
I am going to my mums in the first week of the school holidays to spend a week with family and catch up with my brother and his family who are visiting from England and we are having an early Christmas SO I have to bring my deadline forward a few weeks for family Christmas presents......
So far all on track but I just realised that school holidays starts here in two weeks aaaahhhhh!!!

Finished The Ruffle Dress!

Just had to show you this gorgeous little dress again :-)
Lucky I don't have a girl, I would have one for everyday of the week! I LOVE it and it was so satisfying to finish. Too Cute! It is very simple sewing which was a bonus for me as I generally have trouble with anything other than a straight line. The pattern can be found over here Jodie at Jelly Wares just leave her a comment asking about her pattern and she would love to share it with you.

I also make a little Softie for my other niece....

The planning and preparation....

Ta Dah!!

See its all just straight lines :-)

And finally Alice over at Crochet With Raymond (who has very generously awarded me a "Beautiful Blogger Award", Thankyou Alice :-) but more of that later) has done a brilliant tutorial for a Granny Tea Cosie. Remember those mixture of colours I wasn't to sure about?

Here it is....

The Granny Tea Cosie. Isn't it Great, I think the red trim just finishes it off nicely. Another Christmas present done and dusted!!

Creative AND Favourite Things Friday

This week my FTF and my bit of Friday Creativity are one and the same.....

Ric-Rac crochet style, I am loving it! It is very addictive and looks absolutely fabulous when used as a trim. So much nicer than the bought stuff!! It is so easy to make as well....

There is a lovely tutorial over at Fox's Lane if you are keen to give it a go, just imagine it in Christmas colours!!!

Added as an embellishment to a singlet dress....

What little girl wouldn't want ric-rac on her dress?

Just have to sew in the ends and attach the skirt to the bodice and that's another present done!

Want to play along this week then pop over here for FTF
and here for Creative Friday.

The Good, the Bad or the Ugly???

I started of thinking it was Ugly ( I can't tell you how ugly but think carrots!)

Then I was thinking it was not so bad???

Now I may even be heading for good with the right embellishments and edging!....

Any thoughts??

Don't forget I am doing a PIF. If you are interested in joining me just check out my previous post and leave a comment.

More creativity for this week over here!

Pay It Forward

A tree is known by its fruit; a man by his deeds. A good deed is never lost; he who sows courtesy reaps friendship, and he who plants kindness gathers love.
Saint Basil

Today I am joining in a PIF {Pay It Forward} hosted by Hello Gorgeous. PIF is where acts of kindness are done without expecting anything in return, just passing it on, hoping that the recipients will do the same and pay it forward, like a never ending chain of kindness.

Just imagine all that goodness spreading around the world!

You have 365 days to complete your acts of kindness. I was lucky enough to be one of the first three to respond and have therefore also taken up the challenge of the PIF!

****In my PIF I will make and send a gift to the first 3 followers who leave a comment to this post, requesting to join this exchange, and promising to pay it forward to 3 other people.****

What YOU have to do in return is "
Pay It Forward" by making the same announcement and promise onYOUR blog.

So who wants to join me????

Go on it will be fun :-)

Mutual Admiration Society

Look at my little blossom! Now who is the happiest at our relax time??? I lie down and she is there. The purring is so loud!!! I know its the best de-stress for me and I suspect the same goes for Tulah.....

I can just feel all the tension melting away, nothing else works so well for me! It has left me curious and wondering if she gets her good feelings from me when I de-stress or do I get my good feelings from her de-stressing???

All I know is that it works!!

I, J, K, and L for Carolyne :-)
