Petal looks ready to say goodbye ....

Then again, maybe not? ....

Youngest son wishes we had puppies all the time!....

I will be glad to say goodbye to the puppy mayhem for another year....

Flower Power

Cute as a Button....

Ravenhill  has a tutorial for these gorgeous little flowers and shows lots of ways they can be used.  I have been searching all thru my stash for little bits that I can make up into them.

They are so easy!

The only thing that I did differently was to make the opening a button hole,  just so it would be easier to sew up later after turning inside out and stuffing.  The edges didn't fray so they were easier to sew together neatly.

I can't think of anything cuter on a little girls dress!

                           THIS!!   :-)

Figuring in Out

Look what my MIL found at the local markets!! Her name is 'Pricilla' and she needs a bit of TLC.

After a bit of a brush off, a measure and tweak and a new outfit she looks just like me! It's a bit weird to see yourself in 3D. I was a bit surprised! Not a bad sort after all ;-) I am an athletic type so I always feel a lot bigger than I actually am. I'm solid (its all muscle....I wish!) but I am not as HUGE as I tell myself I am. It was a good exercise for my body image.

Look how tall my boys are getting!

And according to my youngest son 'Pricilla' does look just like mummy! Here he is, true to form, hamming it up for the camera....

I have well and truly been hooked with these Granny Slippers

A pair for me....

A pair for youngest son....

And a pair for No 1 son!
I might be giving myself RSI so I had better mix it up a little bit....

I have been having a bit of trouble with my spinning wheel. I have the use of a large flyer but it doesn't want to line up with my wheel. If anyone reading my blog knows if this is the right baseplate for a large Ashford flyer or not please let me know. I am hoping to have a go at the novelty yarns, I love how they look with all the extra bits and bumps in them.

And finally if you have got this far? The Puppies!

Slugs and snails and puppy dogs tails....

How CUTE are these pair....

Now head on over to Kirsty's for more creativity and have a fabulous day :-)

My Creative Space

I haven't been very creative today with my hands but my mind has been working overtime!

I was very fortunate to be given 3 Kimonos this weekend by my friends neighbour. I had mentioned that I was looking for nice Japanese style material to make up some Furoshiki
and she gave me these which had been under her bed!

Oh MY...How lucky am I!!

I have hung the cream coloured one in my studio as it was so nice and just begging to be displayed ( I just have to steam the wrinkles out, sorry about the photo).

I will use the brown one for my sewing. And I have swapped the blue one with Sashiko Started It.

Not sure what we are swapping yet? We are still working it out. The lovely Lis pointed me in the direction of that brilliant store in Melbourne Ziguzagu where I was able to find some lovely Japanese printed material and many other yummy things to add to my wishlist!!

Can't wait to see what she does with it!

Now head over to Kootoyoo and check out all the other lovely creative spaces.....I think 'lovely' has been my word for today :-)

Apron Swap

A Surprise in Mail....

I took part in an Apron Swap kindly organized by the lovely Sarah at Red Gingham

My Swap partner was Anilla at Sew Vanilla

Anilla made me a lovely apron.

She added a lovely butterfly ribbon for the trim and a linen napkin for the pocket.....gorgeous!

We both had a bit of a learning curve though....
We emailed each other and established that we were both the same dress size BUT what we neglected to do was ask each other about our height!!

Turns out Anilla is tall and I am short :-)

I hope she doesn't have as much trouble with her apron's pocket as I have with mine???

Nothing a quick unpick and re-sew won't fix!

Thanks so much Sarah for all the hard work, I had a lot of fun and I have a nice apron to boot.... :-)

The last photo is of the apron I made for Anilla.

She said her new kitchen was going to be red and white so I up-cycled a denim skirt and added a nice pocket and some trim. I played with the un-straightness of the skirt and added some buttons to accentuate that. I had forgotten to photograph my efforts so had to hurriedly unwrap the parcel and take a photo on my studio mannequin so sorry for the crumpled looking apron ;-)

Blogger is still playing up for me so I just had to go with where they thought my photos should go......Ho Hum!

An Error of Ways

Blogger has been playing up for me all weekend so I was unable to post....stay tuned and I will show my Apron Swap later this afternoon.

Thanks for being patient.... :-)

Who am I?

Eight Answers....

The Lovely Kate  was tagged and has asked us to fill in the blanks regarding some questions about ourselves.

So here it is....

My Favorite meal is....  Chicken Caesar Salad ( with the dressing on the side ;-) )  followed by anything chocolate but Mud cake if I can get it.

Do you have a quirky eccentricity?....yes my husband!  He just told me I have too many to mention  :-)

My middle name is....  Ann, after my mother.

I am passionate about.... horses, my other family pets, wool, books, family,  and at the moment as it changes often, crochet, blogging and avoiding housework!

Thongs or Birkenstocks...   Definitely Birkenstocks or any other super chunky sandal or boots.

Who was I before I had kids...  Looking for love in all the wrong places, hence the 'older parent' status ( one person even asked me once if the boys were my grandchildren...ooops ).     Maybe that's not the answer Kate was searching for???     Well.... I have always been passionate about animals so naturally I became a Veterinary Nurse.  I worked after school to start with and then in various practices around Sydney and Canberra and I even did 4 years in London in  a great practice and worked with all the visiting specialists.  After moving to Cairns 15 years ago I did various jobs in all manner of places but my favorite ones were:  a horse riding trail guide for all the Japanese tourists, working on a station near Cloncurry as a gardener (boy that was hard work), working as a milker at a dairy farm, brilliant but very rainy and split shifts are a killer!   Finally as a DPI inspector on a Fruit Fly Road Block checking all the traffic for contraband  ie Fruit.   Great Fun!!    Here I was set up by a colleague on a blind date with my husband and father of my two 'full on' boys...and they lived happily ever after   :-)

Have I ever been arrested....  No, drunk and disorderly but never arrested!

This weekend I will.... Take the boys to hockey, go grocery shopping,  do the markets on Sunday, ride my horse, watch TV with Billy, share a family meal (Billy is home too late during the week), knit, crochet, read, blog and have 5 minutes peace while Billy has some quality time with the boys.

Hope you enjoyed....

I am loving this idea....

My Creative Space

From one extreme to the other....

I have been having fun doing a couple of different projects this week.   From the tiny hook 1.5m for the beaded jug cover to hand size for the crocheted Granny floor rug.

Each project has had its challenges disregarding the difficulty of just changing between hook sizes.

The beaded jug cover is a first for me and it is not perfect but I am happy with how it went.  Nan has been asking me for ages to make her one so I gave it a go and Ta-Da!!

The floor rug also had its problems!   I absolutely LOVED making it, it was so rewarding and fun!!    My challenge is going to be sourcing the raw materials.   I would like to make it out of cotton rope but up here in FNQ I am unable to obtain it for less than $1.40 a metre!  Just one granny square will need between 70 and 100 metres depending on how many rounds I choose to do....

So there is the dilemma, how on earth will anyone be able to afford the rugs even if I made them at cost and threw in my time just for the fun of making one???

Maybe I will have to look offshore for a cheaper source??

What do you think,  keep going or scrap the idea and put it on my to-do list for when I am rich and famous??

Now for just a teaser of something else I have been creating....

I will be able to reveal in a couple of weeks.  Pop over to  Kirsty's   for more of this weeks creative genius   :-)
