My Creative Space

CreativeWednesday ? !!

My Creative day was early this week!   I met with the Tablelands group of the Fibrecrafters  FNQ at the lovely Lake Eacham.....

We had a lovely day and we even had our little friend visit us for lunch....

I have been playing around with more of those yummy Mini Granny Squares......

I'm hoping this will work together for a Beanie to send to the Alice Springs Beanie Festival   or I could turn it into a tea - cosie for this Competition

Told you I was loving these mini's.......this is a bag (WIP) for my stall .  I have finished what I was making with all the lovely pink mini's but I can't show you until a much anticipated new arrival is here  :-)

I searched all the local charity shops today as well looking for a good sized teapot to use for a template for the tea - cosie   No luck with the teapot but I did score this.....

Hope you have a great Creative day also and don't forget to check out more creativity at Kootoyoo     :-)

Easter Felting

 In the Tropics

Friday after school we had another felting workshop only this time I was not felting as such.....

I was helping the younger generation get creative.  Funny how it ended up as nearly all girls, the boys decided it was more fun to be athletic outside on the benches ( which did lead to a few scrapes and bumps as boys will be boys)!   We decided to do a bit of Easter (Spring) creativity which is a bit of a conundrum as it is Autumn here and no baby animals to be seen, although at my house I have a hen who's body clock is on English time and she has a clutch of babies.....

Isn't this just the most adorable little thing!

and this.....  The only problem with new babies at this time of the year is that they get cold and wet and then they need some extra help warming up,

Mum seems to get distracted a bit with eating when I let them out for an afternoon run and doesn't notice when her babies are getting cold and wet, so a quick cuddle and they dry out and can go back to mum!

Back to the felting.....

I think we made a nice collection don't you?   Love that chicken!

The mums did a great job too....

and I made this little lamb  :-)   We all had a great afternoon.

It has been raining all day here and it is nice and muddy and slippery outside (fun when it's time to feed the animals).  By the looks of the weather map we will be getting the rain for a few more days still to come.  The rain brings out our 'rainman'.   He sits on his log or the porch railing and sings and sings.....He can get pretty loud too,   I will have to go and tell him it is bed time!

Have a great weekend everyone  :-)

Time for some Chocolate...

Birthday Cake

Today is my youngest child's Birthday.   I can't believe my baby is 7!

He's pretty excited about it all and can't wait for the cake...

I can't wait either, its the best ever chocolate one!

Better show you number one son's cake as well while we are at it...his birthday is on Valentines Day (note the heart cake shape).

He was pretty impressed with his cake too.....

Don't you just love Birthdays??

My Creative Space

My Creative Thursday has been thwarted by unwell kiddies  :-(  but I have been working on a few things.....

Can't tell you what it is, but it is small and a surprise for someone nice.......

I finished 'Circus Bunny'  who was for a friends grand-daughter.  My friend used to run the circus up here for the children and these Bunnies are part of a theme I have going on at the moment.  I have also done   'Yoga Bunny' and 'School Bunny'.  The link for the basic pattern is Vicky Lewis  she has some amazing  felted animal patterns on Etsy.

I found my favourite jumper in the cupboard.  Unfortunately is is the wrong shape for me.  It's a bit short in the waist which looks really boxy, but I can't bear to pass it on to someone else.......got any ideas as to how I can fix it up so I can wear it??   It is cotton.

Now I had better go and deal with this naughty monster while you check out some more creative ideas here

Have a great creative day!

Horsing Around

 A day in the bush

I took my horse 'Penny' for a lovely ride today.

We had a fire on the hill behind us (where I go riding )last November....

These are some images from a ride Ebony (on Horse), my neighbour, and I went on 1 week after the  fire had been through. The volunteer fire fighters had to bulldozer a track through the bush as a firebreak and they followed our little trail......its pretty bleak isn't it but if you look closely you can see the grass is already growing back.  My images are not the best as I only had my mobile camera with me.  Same for todays images....must remember to take my camera riding!

This is Penny, she is waiting patiently for me to photograph a grass tree that was after the fire just charcoal.  Look at it now,

Nature is very efficient isn't she.....

When we came home Penny had a lovely bath....'Shiny Like a Penny'.

For a treat I took my oldest horse 'Tally',  for a walk to the school bus-stop to pick up the boys.  They like to ride him home.    He is 23 this year and I have had the pleasure of owning him for 15.   I ride him to the bus-stop, I should say he  ate   his way to the bus-stop, he loves to get out and munch some different flavoured grass from that which is in his paddock.

He is a sweetheart but he is getting a little bony to ride these days.......

I  LOVE my horse days.....BLISS!!

and yes if you are following my Blog....I do own 4 horses  :-)

Turning Japanese

Thankfully  Cyclone Ului has passed us by,  now we just have to wait and see how much rain there is and if all the roads get blocked.  I am thinking of the residents of Proserpine and hoping they are safe and that the clean up is not too bad....Say safe everyone.

On a lighter note.....

don't you just love the Japanese prints?   I have found a supply of images and now I just have to find the time to play around and be creative.....

Hello Ului

Tropical Cyclone Ului is just off the North Queensland, Australian coast.  See the big  donut on the far  right hand side of the satellite image....courtesy of BOM     She is Huge!!!

Almost as big as the state of QLD!!

Draw a straight line across to the coast of Oz  from Ului and go inland about 100km,  yep that's our  'house' .....   lets just say no-one is making any plans for the weekend and a trip to the supermarket is a nightmare at the moment as everyone is stocking up on supplies..... After a small rain depression last year the supermarket shelves were empty (forgot to take a photo), they were delivering food into Cairns by BOAT!!

Lucky I have a HUGE stash of wool to go on with....knit one, purl one......Breathe, Breathe, Breathe  :-)

Granny Squares

Since I joined along with Pip     and her  Granny a Day Challenge    I have been seeing Granny Squares everywhere!

These are some of  mine that I have been doing, not daily I'm afraid but the pile is slowly growing so I should have something by the end of the year!  I was inspired by the lovely colours of the farmland around the area where I live......Colours of the Tablelands

This is where I have been seeing Grannys......

Here   -   Do You Mind If I Knit

Here   -   Bibliosophy

Here   -  Kootoyoo

Here   -  Fox's Lane

Here   -   Fruitfulfusion

Lots of the latest magazines also seem to have articles with pictures of Granny Squares and I am sure I am even dreaming Granny Squares!    Wonder what the universe is trying to tell me???  Not even going to think about all the crochet Hearts that are also popping up....... Better keep Grannying  :-)

Imagination is a wonderful thing....

I found this lovely animation from a childrens film released last year and just had to share the link.....both the song and the imagery are wonderful!

Azur et Asmar

I have also finished my  dress/tunic/wrap,  not sure what to call it?   It is just what I was after as it can be worn many different ways depending on my mood and the weather...

                                                                    See....

                Summer                        Autumn                     Winter

This little package arrived in the post last week and I spent a lovely time making the gorgeous little owl....

Isn't she lovely!  I ordered the kit from  Claire at

Craft Schmaft

 -  the packaging was beautifully done and the instructions very easy to follow

- the needle and thread container was so tiny and tidy, no misplacing the coloured threads,  I loved it!    And here is the finished baby.....

                                                  Too Cute!!

Do you like swaps???      then check this one out.....

Hope you have a great weekend   :-)

Salt and Pepper

I had the most wonderful day today...

Mr B had a day home from work and I slept in ( with Hamish, the cat ), while he cooked Bacon and Eggs for the boys....

It was lovely and sunny, no rain to be seen....

My neighbour came to visit and we took the horses for a long walk to the river for a swim....

BLISS!

                       Squirrel        and           Dusty

or maybe that should have been   SALT AND PEPPER?

Sorry they are not the best quality photos but I forgot my camera.....Groan!  I resorted to my mobile phone's tiny camera as the horses seemed to be having to much fun not to share.

I have also been a little crafty over the last few days....

Remember my scarf?  I   'felt'  ;-)  (sorry)  something was still missing so I have been adding a sparkly edge....

It is a rather long scarf so it is going to take me a while but I think it finishes it off nicely don't you?
