Handmade Christmas Challenge

My fingers have been busy, busy, busy! I have been making all my Christmas presents and ticking off my list.
I am going to my mums in the first week of the school holidays to spend a week with family and catch up with my brother and his family who are visiting from England and we are having an early Christmas SO I have to bring my deadline forward a few weeks for family Christmas presents......
So far all on track but I just realised that school holidays starts here in two weeks aaaahhhhh!!!

Finished The Ruffle Dress!

Just had to show you this gorgeous little dress again :-)
Lucky I don't have a girl, I would have one for everyday of the week! I LOVE it and it was so satisfying to finish. Too Cute! It is very simple sewing which was a bonus for me as I generally have trouble with anything other than a straight line. The pattern can be found over here Jodie at Jelly Wares just leave her a comment asking about her pattern and she would love to share it with you.

I also make a little Softie for my other niece....

The planning and preparation....

Ta Dah!!

See its all just straight lines :-)

And finally Alice over at Crochet With Raymond (who has very generously awarded me a "Beautiful Blogger Award", Thankyou Alice :-) but more of that later) has done a brilliant tutorial for a Granny Tea Cosie. Remember those mixture of colours I wasn't to sure about?

Here it is....

The Granny Tea Cosie. Isn't it Great, I think the red trim just finishes it off nicely. Another Christmas present done and dusted!!

Creative AND Favourite Things Friday

This week my FTF and my bit of Friday Creativity are one and the same.....

Ric-Rac crochet style, I am loving it! It is very addictive and looks absolutely fabulous when used as a trim. So much nicer than the bought stuff!! It is so easy to make as well....

There is a lovely tutorial over at Fox's Lane if you are keen to give it a go, just imagine it in Christmas colours!!!

Added as an embellishment to a singlet dress....

What little girl wouldn't want ric-rac on her dress?

Just have to sew in the ends and attach the skirt to the bodice and that's another present done!

Want to play along this week then pop over here for FTF
and here for Creative Friday.

The Good, the Bad or the Ugly???

I started of thinking it was Ugly ( I can't tell you how ugly but think carrots!)

Then I was thinking it was not so bad???

Now I may even be heading for good with the right embellishments and edging!....

Any thoughts??

Don't forget I am doing a PIF. If you are interested in joining me just check out my previous post and leave a comment.

More creativity for this week over here!

Pay It Forward

A tree is known by its fruit; a man by his deeds. A good deed is never lost; he who sows courtesy reaps friendship, and he who plants kindness gathers love.
Saint Basil

Today I am joining in a PIF {Pay It Forward} hosted by Hello Gorgeous. PIF is where acts of kindness are done without expecting anything in return, just passing it on, hoping that the recipients will do the same and pay it forward, like a never ending chain of kindness.

Just imagine all that goodness spreading around the world!

You have 365 days to complete your acts of kindness. I was lucky enough to be one of the first three to respond and have therefore also taken up the challenge of the PIF!

****In my PIF I will make and send a gift to the first 3 followers who leave a comment to this post, requesting to join this exchange, and promising to pay it forward to 3 other people.****

What YOU have to do in return is "
Pay It Forward" by making the same announcement and promise onYOUR blog.

So who wants to join me????

Go on it will be fun :-)

Mutual Admiration Society

Look at my little blossom! Now who is the happiest at our relax time??? I lie down and she is there. The purring is so loud!!! I know its the best de-stress for me and I suspect the same goes for Tulah.....

I can just feel all the tension melting away, nothing else works so well for me! It has left me curious and wondering if she gets her good feelings from me when I de-stress or do I get my good feelings from her de-stressing???

All I know is that it works!!

I, J, K, and L for Carolyne :-)

A rich lucky old lady....

Hooray its Favourite Things Friday again! Want to join in? Pop over HERE and add a link so we can all come and check out your favourite things :-)

This is my favourite piece of jewellery (apart from my wedding band of course!!)....

Billy gave it to me for x-mas a number of years back knowing my love of symbolism. We picked it together and bought it over the Internet, a purchase that held a bit of trepidation as it can be a win or a lose on the Internet sometimes if you are not careful. I did all the right things and ticked all the right boxes and ordered (after numerous emails with the site owner).

This is a piece of Jade and it has carvings of little bats (for luck) coins (for prosperity) and Ling Chih ( a plant that symbolises long life ).

See the coins down the left hand side? And the two bats sitting in the Ling Chih?

Not a very clear photo of the other side I'm afraid but you can still see a little bat sitting on the coins and the Ling Chih (fungus of immortality).

I am a person that wears the same jewellery all the time, I rarely wear anything different as I am allergic to metal and if I have anything else on for long I get all itchy. So this piece is around my neck all the time, I'm quite attached to it as wearing it reminds me that I am lucky, prosperous and will live a long time!

My Creative Space

Todays Creative Space is for my SIL

She is away from home and family having tests in Brisbane which means lots of boring waiting around and resting.

I started this project to send her a bit of home everyday.
Most patterns have been taken from the brilliant book 100 Flowers to Knit and Crochet by Lesley Stanfield which Alice introduced us too....its a lovely book and has instructions as well as diagrams for crochet. I have been challenging myself to make the flowers from the diagrams. I have to admit I would be lost on some of them without the written instructions, but I'm getting there.

I hope you enjoy these as well....

A is for Aster....

I did put some little googly eyes on him and sew in the tail but this is the only photo I got.....

4 leaves for luck....

Lots of lying around....

Sashiko inspired....

If you don't know what this one means just ask me :-)

Another favourite flower....

Sorry taken late at night with bad light, but trust me it is pretty colours....

Check out who else is playing today over at Kirsty's

She is here!

This is Tulah!

Now I ask you how could you resist a face like that???
She is a one year old Scottish Fold. They are the laziest breed of cats and are perfect for inside living. Billy only wanted another Scottish Fold for this reason ( we didn't want to add another native killer to the environment). She was looking for a home as an inside cat as she is too small for breeding. She was desexed last week and then hopped on a plane and flew a few thousand miles before arriving in Cairns on Friday.....

She seems to have settled in really well and last night slept on the bed next to me so my empty space has been filled. Not forgotten, but filled. I didn't anticipate such a quick turn around, usually there is a long wait for this breed but the need was there so we filled it.

She is not a kitten and she has been desexed so I don't have to worry about any of that and she is so affectionate, just loves to be stroked and tickled under the chin.

I think it is a good match....

The boys have nicknamed her 'Cammo Kitty' as she just happens to be the same colour as the kitchen lino! LOL Good name I think!

Handmade Christmas Challenge

Remember that dirty unwashed fleece that I was gifted a while ago????

Well I have risen to the Handmade Christmas Challenge.......

I washed the fleece, so that it was nice and clean......

I carded the fleece, so there were no knots.......

I spun the fleece, so that I could make something from the yarn.......

ATTENTION Mum and Dad do not go any further or you will spoil your
x-mas surprise!

I crocheted it together in a nice pattern that I got from Alice and Raymond, go and have a look it's a brilliant tutorial!
My wool is a bit over-spun but for this item it will be perfect!

The brown yarn is a commercial one, Patons Wilderness, so yummy, gorgeous and soft. This is the back......

An African Flower Ornamental Potholder!!!
Isn't it the best and Alice you will have to agree that it does look rather striking in neutral colours :-)

Want some more ideas for a Handmade Christmas?? Look here......

I also have some exciting news but I am going to save it for tomorrow.......

My Creative Space

I haven't been very creative this week but the lovely Kate over at Dash Robin has....

She sent me a 'Rescue Package' to cheer me up after our sad news about Hamish. Aren't I lucky!! I adore the little 'Kitty Kat' and the bird brooch is so sweet too.

Kate has also very accurately guessed that I am a big fan of the Dalai Lama and sent me this lovely copy of his Book of Transformation, a text about the importance of love, compasssion, balanced attitudes and positive thinking....Perfect! Thanks Kate, you made my day and I had a little Kitty Kat to sleep on my bed last night :-)

Here is what I did with some of the ric-rac that I made.....

I have this gorgeous skirt and I finally found a top to wear with it but felt that it needed a little something to give it a lift and match it in with all the lovely stitching in the skirt....Nice touch I think?

Pop over to Kirsty's and see who else is being creative this week, should be a long list of goodness now as I am pretty late today!

Favourite Things Friday and Creative Friday

Today is FTF and I couldn't let it go any longer without mentioning my all time Favourite Thing....

Billy aka Husband/The Old Man/ The Other Half.

This year we have been married 10 years!!! We met on a blind date and the rest is history as they say.

This is where you will usually find him, working with his truck...

He works hard, loves Tattoos, is a big family man and scrubs up quite nicely I must say....

The two of us....

And this one is my favourite! For someone who is supposed to not be an animal man he has some awfully nice moments with the pets. This is HIS shed cat, I think Tom has been in those arms before.... :-)

Now for Creative Friday, this is a little something I have been playing around with. Pop over here for more creativity today.
