Hooked on Yo Yo's too....

Thanks to a post that the lovely Louise put up last week here  I am also hooked on these fun little Yo Yo's....

They are so quick and easy and brilliant for using up your bits and pieces....

One row down, about 8 to go!  Hardly any ends to sew in either, my kind of hooking....

They are being made into a 'dashmat'  for my car, how fun and colourful is that  :-)

Favourite Thing Friday

Hooray I am joining in again with

Favourite Things Friday @ QIMP

Favourite Things Friday....

I have to admit that this is one of my favourite things....

My iphone.   I won't go so far as to say I couldn't live without it (I would hate to try) but this little beauty has been constantly with me since purchase in late 2010. (Thank you Billy)  I went on a holiday to Sydney and this time I didn't take a laptop or my camera, I just took my iphone.  I was able to keep in contact thru my emails, I could read and comment (if I was really inclined to use the small keys) on all the blogs I follow and I even took some pretty amazing photos.

In fact the photos have amazed me.  Remember the gold beetle....iphone, and the small crab....iphone.  It really is a nice little camera and I have used it more than my big one lately for all my blog photos.  Just so handy.

As a row counter for my knitting,  a game player for the boys in times of needed distraction, an alarm clock, for my music and audiobooks, keeping in touch with friends thru facebook, for speedy texting and sending MMS and much, much more....it does it all....

I have even made a ripper felted pouch for it, the needle felted symbol is for 'Tiger' my chinese birth sign!

So even though I am not really a gadget guru I have to say that I have been more than impressed with my iphone....wouldn't be without it  :-)

A Sunny Sunday!

Can you believe it after weeks and weeks of rain (how long have we been on school holidays- 6 weeks!) I woke up this morning and it was SUNNY!

Hooray we all jumped out of bed and even the animals seemed to be in a happier mood, its amazing what a bit of the Golden Glow can do for you isn't it....

This is what our weeks have been like....

Notice how many other people there are in the pool, I think we were the only mad ones to brave the weather....

Cullen blows up his swim shirt and floats about like he has a life jacket on, he doesn't mind the rain, you're going to get wet in the pool anyway right!  Look at all the raindrops!

But today was Sunny and dry.....

Now you might be wondering what my husband thinks he is doing standing on a ladder propped up in the back of his ute????

As it was a nice day we finally got to fix up the butterfly at the bus stop for the school bus.   The old butterfly has been there for years.  My horse riding buddy's dad put it up on the tree when she was just a young thing going to school (she has just finished school).  Its wing had  fallen down  and she was looking a little neglected so we decided to fix her up and also add a butterfly of our own for the boys.  Everyone knows the 'butterfly bus stop' even if it is only my boys who use it now.

The boys chose a butterfly that spins in the wind, pretty isn't she!   Hopefully we won't get another cyclone this season to blow her off the tree....

All very proud of their efforts and I think the butterfly's are happy to have company  too :-)

Look Shadows!!!

Even my chickens and guinea fowl made the most of a day out and escaped to the horse paddock for a scratch around.....the last two are funny, just like a little old couple!!

Books, bags and uniforms ready.....mummy gets to go back to YOGA on Tuesday,  Bliss!

I will miss the company of my young men but I am sure there will be plenty to do to keep me busy.....

Wordless Wednesday

I know this is called Wordless Wednesday but I am a little early and  I just have to say....Look at that Petal's tummy (Jack Russell),   Puppies due in about 2 weeks!  :-)

Thank you to everyone who has been sending healing messages and kind thoughts.  I am slowly getting better, I even thought about horse riding today for the first time in ages!   Probably could have timed the dog walk/ride a bit better as we got soaked to the bones!!  One of the joys of the 'Wet Season'.

The Floods....

There is no need to say any more in my header as we all know about the devastation that is happening in many parts of Australia.  I am in awe of the force of nature and horrified at the extent of the damage that is being inflicted upon many regions as I write this.

I have to say that I am humbled by the efforts of many fellow bloggers to help and I am writing to ask that you take this opportunity to do a bit of surfing and see who is doing what and ask you to please help out too.  I would usually post links for my readers but my health is not 100% so could you please check it out for yourselves??

I have debated with myself about writing this post but as I feel strongly about the issue I thought I would.  I in no way mean to disrespect what is happening or anyone who is involved in such tragic circumstances.

I think I noticed it many years ago when my first born was still tiny and we received the shocking news that The Princess of Wales had been in a car accident in France, what came after that has shocked and saddened me as to what extent the media will go to to 'get a story'.   Then came the wedding in Israel and footage on the television that should never have been made public.  Next was September 11.   Those images still haunt me and I have not watched the news on Television since.

Now with so much modern technology available to us I feel that the respect has been lost when reporting news.  We are seeing visions on the television that would have previously been censored out of the media and deemed unsuitable to show to the general public. I have a friend who lost her husband in a car accident and then had to relive the experience thru pictures on the TV.  When did we cross that line and do we have the right to??   Does that work both ways?  Should we be showing all the wonderful news with out censorship as well?  Did you ever see a baby being born on the TV??    Is this not wrong??  Do you think that our emotions are something that are private to us??  Should the whole world be allowed to see us at our most vulnerable.  I think deep down that is what upsets me the most, the fact that the media are showing people at their most unprotected moments.

I work very hard to censor what my children see and hear in the media and it is a constant vigilant job too.  That doesn't mean we are living under a mushroom and ignoring what is going on around us.  I just don't think children are developed enough to deal with the basic language that the news is reported in or to deal with the images that are shown to us these days.

As I said before I am saddened and shocked that our communities seem to want this sort of information.  Do you??  Am I one of the few who feels ashamed at the media's behaviour.

Yes I do want the information and to know what is going on but I don't want the sensationalism that goes with that...have we lost the ability to just report the news??

Ok rant over.

I am sending prayers for everyone today,

Dot is AMAZING!!

nokia | August 31, 2010
Professor Fletcher's invention of the CellScope, which is a Nokia device with a microscope attachment, was the inspiration for a teeny-tiny film created by Sumo Science at Aardman. It stars a 9mm girl called Dot as she struggles through a microscopic world. All the minuscule detail was shot using CellScope technology and a Nokia N8, with its 12 megapixel camera and Carl Zeiss optics.

and this is how they did it, thanks for sharing LilSonnySky

See more projects and how the 'Dot' film was made at http://www.nokia.com/nseries orhttp://www.facebook.com/nokia

I am recovering from a 'dreaded lurgy' so as my brain is mush I have been looking to others for some fun inspiration....

Isn't modern technology fantastic!! Well done Nokia!

Happy New Year

Year's end is neither an end nor a beginning

but a going on, with all the wisdom that

experience can instil in us.

Hal Borland

I am looking forward to the energy that the NewYear brings.  I have lots of ideas in my head and things I would like to try to do.....I  have a suspicion though that I will have to wait till after the school holidays, especially if all this rain keeps up!
